Hidden among the green hills of the Pavese Apennines, in the heart of the municipality of Romagnese, we can find the enchanting Rivarolo waterfalls, a place of rare natural beauty that contains ancient stories and evocative legends.
The Rivarolo Waterfalls, fed by the fresh waters of the stream of the same name, offer a breathtaking spectacle, especially during spring, when heavy rains swell the watercourse, creating a series of spectacular jumps. The sound of water crashing on the rocks, surrounded by lush vegetation, transports visitors to an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, far from the chaos of everyday life.
The small village of Romagnese has always lived in symbiosis with the surrounding nature. The Rivarolo Waterfalls are an integral part of this history, once used as a source of energy for the mills that dotted the landscape.
Today, the Rivarolo Waterfalls represent an unmissable destination for nature and hiking lovers. The route to reach the waterfalls is suitable for everyone, with well-marked paths that wind through woods of oaks, locust trees, hornbeams, some wild cherry trees and hawthorns. For the more adventurous, the surrounding rocks also offer the possibility of climbing, while for those seeking relaxation, the green meadows along the stream are perfect for an outdoor picnic.
The route starts from the Romagnese sports field and goes up along the Rivarolo stream until reaching the hamlet of Casa Rocchi, in this stretch you can admire the various natural waterfalls, whose names originate from the place from which they originate or from the old mills to which supplied their waters: Mirèi di Ghios, La Prà, Masapè (the highest), Damès a i ort, Mirèi di Roc, Fusà, Scabiora. The route ends in front of the small cave of the Madonnina del Fosso.
The Rivarolo Waterfalls trail is part of a network of hiking trails that extends across the entire Romagna area, for a total of 80 km of marked and marked trails, immersed in nature between 500 and 1,300 meters above sea level. Most of these itineraries have been reopened since 2020 thanks to the work of the Romagnese Volunteer Group, which cleaned and made the 16 routes safe. The map of the paths, available on the Proloco di Romagnese website and in various points of the town, follows a circular route along the ridge, from which the 16 paths leading to the chief town branch off.
Romagnese, its waterfalls and its paths, await you, ready to reveal their secrets and give you an unforgettable experience. Whether you are an expert hiker or a simple walker, this corner of paradise is a destination you cannot miss.
